4Impractical...but totally cool.Sep 15, 2010
By Scott Wilke "Scotty Doo"
I've read some reviews of this gun which have called it "impractical." I have to agree with these people. In a Nerf battle, this would definitely not be my first choice. The loading is a bit time consuming and would be difficult if you're on the run. It can only shoot two darts before reloading (obviously) and the ammo holder only holds 8 darts.

That being said, whatever points this gun loses in impracticality, it makes up for by looking cool. Lately, Nerf has been pumping out a lot of weapons that just look like different versions of already existing guns. I'm really happy to see them branching out and trying something different. I'm also happy because I've been waiting for a shotgun style Nerf weapon. I'm holding out hope for a full fledged Nerf shotgun in the future...preferably with oversized darts...that'd be great. Until then, this one has satisfied my desire to own a Nerf shotgun.

Whether or not you should buy this gun is dependent on what you plan on doing with it. If you are into Nerf battles, then no, this probably isn't a very practical choice in weaponry. If you're just a casual Nerf person or you like to cause havoc in the office, then yea, this weapon is a definite must have.

Did I mention this gun is cool looking?

5Barrel Break - Awesome gun!Oct 02, 2010
By Derek Smith
This is by far one of Nerf's coolest guns they've made in a while. It's 20 times cooler than the off brand Buzzbee.

First of all, we finally have a Nerf shotgun. Thank you Nerf! Second we finally got a dart holder attachment, which isn't completely practical but it's nice to finally have one. The gun itself is incredibly different than any other Nerf gun to date. The trigger has 2 pulls, you pull once and it shoots one dart. If you pull a litte harder it shoots the second dart. SO COOL! You can also pull the trigger hard and fast and it shoots both darts at once. The reloading is so fun too. It has a trigger on the side where your thumb goes (lefty or righties!) and you click it and the barrel comes out of the gun and you pull it downward as it cocks the firing mechanism, and you can reload with 2 new darts. No need to have shells like the stupid Buzzbee off brand. Put the barrel back in and you're ready to fire.

The distance is GREAT for this gun. Accuracy is pretty good too. This gun is overall one of the most fun to shoot, but like I said earlier if you're having a Nerf war of a game of Humans Vs. Zombies, it's just not practical cause it may take a while to load a new set of darts. Unless you get good at it...

Pros:
A NERF SHOTGUN!!
Better than the offbrand Buzzbee shotgun
Attachment is nice for other guns too
solid design, with cocking mechanism
shoots GREAT!!
a lot of darts for one gun.
Hardly ever jams
double shots with one load!!

Cons:
Long time to load the gun
darts fall out of the attachment sometimes... not very reliable.

Overall this gun is a blast to have. It may not be practical for a game but it's still fun and it looks cool. Shoots great, and even the price isn't too bad at 20 bucks. This gun is a must have for any Nerf gamer!

4The Right Gun for the Right JobDec 15, 2010
By Mark Winfrey
I'll not review the basics of this gun, as they have been well-covered by the other reviews posted so far. What I would like to address are the disappointed reviewers who continue to lament the BB's low ammo capacity and can only find its shotgun-styling worthy of praise.

If one's intention is to use the BB alone, as a primary weapon, against opponents with other Nerf blasters, then of course one will be disappointed. Ammo capacity and rate of fire rule the battlefield, and the BB simply cannot compete.

One does not bring a knife to a gunfight, but that doesn't mean you throw the knife away.

As a complement to a heavier main weapon, the BB really shines. When my Raider/Stampede/whatever runs dry, I am not going to toss it to the ground so I can get more than one shot off with my sidarm. Winning is less important to me than going back to Walmart to buy another Raider because I broke it carelessly. And if I have slung/lost my primary weapon, I still have a hand free to open doors or wield a sword with double the shots of any other non-motorized blaster.

Even after the two shots are exhausted, I can reload those two barrels a lot faster than I can reload a complete 6 rounds into a Maverick or (even worse) a Recon.

Taken by itself, the Barrel Break is not going to give a decisive victory in any Nerf fight. When complementing a higher-capacity blaster like the Raider or Alpha Trooper, the BB is now my preferred sidearm.

5One of the coolest new NERF blasters!Oct 10, 2010
By D. DEVRIEND "Gunstar Hero"
The Barrel Break is just a fun blaster. The way you load it and fire it is just too cool, like an old school double barrel shotgun. Plus, it looks awesome. And it's pretty cheap. The only downside is the trigger action is kinda clunky, requiring a firm pull for the first dart and then a very easy pull for the second... so just mash it and fire 'em both!

4Much cheaper on Toys R Us.comDec 19, 2010
By Nomadagain
Retail price at Toys R Us.com is $19.99, but now on sale for $13.99, plus if you buy one you get the second one at 1/2 price. Don't pay the Amazon.com price of $23.99. I was shocked at the difference!
