Best Nerf Gun for Younger ChildrenDec 21, 2010
By Tim Little I bought this for my 2 year old. It works great! It is a little heavy for him, but he can shoot it with little difficulty. Now we just need to teach him not to aim at our heads! Most nerf guns have a spring that has to be compressed. Not having that spring makes this gun the best gun for younger children.
The second advantage of this gun is the barrel. Holding 10 darts is a bonus, but the best part is that the barrel is exposed. My 2 year old knows where the darts go and can load the gun by himself. My son can also operate the on/off switch by himself. The only problem is he frequently forgets to turn the gun off.
Summary: A 2 year old can operate all aspects of this gun without an adult's assistance.
For the big kid nerf wars (yes daddy has used it a time or two), this is the preferred gun because of its versatility and semi-automatic capabilities. I have a vulcan and longstrike and they are fun but they are too big and bulky. I am guessing the stampede would be the same. I prefer smaller guns because of their versatility. The downfall with the smaller guns is you always have to cock them. The barricade is superior because of its semi-automatic feature.

Excellent N-Strike AdditionDec 13, 2010
By Mark Winfrey The pros/cons of this gun are pretty well described in the other reviews, but I'll reiterate the basics here:
+ True semi-auto operation with relatively-large ammo capacity - Noisy standby mode
Addressing the specific concerns of the previous reviewers, I've found the gun to be a very acceptable compromise for the semi-auto operation:
Accuracy/range - The Barricade falls within the same ranges found with other Nerf guns, perhaps a bit on the low side. I've found there to be some variation even within the same model, but for indoor play the range and accuracy are sufficient.
Jams - I have not had the gun jam once, after multiple rounds of target practice, except when I have mistakenly hindered the chambers from advancing by holding the gun wrong. (With a stock added, the natural positing for the steadying-hand is right on the rotating chambers.)
Size/weight - The gun is definitely the heaviest of the pistol designs, which is somewhat to be expected with the larger ammo capacity. I would agree with a previous reviewer that it seems like it could have been smaller, but it's a minor issue. I am more befuddled by the big tip they put on the front of the barrel, rather than the standard barrel-mount.
Grip - My previous Nerf purchase, the Spectre, had an oddly-short pistol grip that made it feel unsecure in the hand. I am pleased to find that the Barricade, being larger and heavier, has a full-length grip that feels quite secure.
Noise - Aye, there's the rub, as they say. It is quite noisy when on and ready to fire. If you're planning on hunting anyone with this, they'll know where you are at all times if you leave it on. Turning it on when ready to fire isn't really a good option, either, as it takes a good second or two (practically an eternity) to get up to speed. This isn't a big consideration for the way I play with it, but could be a deal-breaker for some.
Other - The gun feels good in the hand, sturdy and solid. The top tactical rail is well-placed and the gun has the standard rear stock-mount. Buy more darts, though. These battery-powered ones really go through the darts, and the ammo bags (with 50 darts) are pretty cheap.
Priced at $20 at Amazon (when I purchased it) and $15 from Target (plus shipping), the gun seems a true bargain for what you get. I added this to a shared arsenal for 7 boys ranging in age from 3-16 and it fit in well with the rest of the well-designed N-Strike lineup. I'd wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone, whether it's a first Nerf gun or part of a growing collection, with the major caveat of the noise produced by the gun in standby.

Excellent designDec 12, 2010
By Zwarru This is an excellent choice of Nerf gun--probably even if you have never had one before. It by far exceeded my expectations by shooting the darts almost instantly (I was expecting a lag like with the Vulcan or Stampede) and as accurately as any other Nerf Gun. The range is better than most Nerf guns normally get. As it is a revolver, this gun has an additional benefit--you can reload it while still having it ready to shoot, allowing you to not run out of ammo while protecting yourself (unlike clip system guns that require you to take out the magazine to reload, leaving you vulnerable). The downside is that it is noisy, by far the noisiest of all guns. As the flywheels must be spinning for the gun to shoot, the motor must always be on. So stealth is not a viable option. This is a worthy trade-off for the all-around awesomeness, especially if you carry a quieter gun with you to use for more covert purposes.

Good gun, but is very limited.Apr 29, 2011
By LeoZodiac I had very high hopes for this weapon, however I didn't expect some of the cons I would run into while wielding a gun like this.
Although the pros for this weapon balance it out, for example, this blasting pistol holds up to 10 darts, which is plenty compared to the other revolvers & most clip systems. Even though the weapon is pretty light, it is also bulky, making it a two-handed gun. There is also a top rail to put on scopes or other accessories, plus the end gives the optional shoulder stock. And of course, the semi-auto action was a definite improvement. Because the hassle of re-cocking a Nerf gun is time consuming in battle, even in pursuit.
Now for the cons, having 10 darts is great, whatever, but weaponry with adequately good ammo capacities should be capable of the gunner performing fast reload speeds as well. When Nerf said that this weapon was semi-auto, however having a semi-auto gun doesn't mean it's a fast gun. Shooting too fast causes the gun to jam easily, which makes you have to shoot the darts periodically, but to me this was better than slam-fire action, gives this gun less recoil. Plus, this weapon is loud when it comes to sneaking up on your opponent. The Barricade shoots a short distance of 15-20 ft. with no upward angle and is slightly inaccurate. This gun was intentionally made for the front lines of one's team. Due to the fact that this was NOT made for stealth and the long reload delays, but has a good fire rate and made for close combat. So unless you got some quick & dexterous hands, you have 10 shots and your done, that's it.
Overall, this gun was a great improvement in it's day, but is quite the deceiver when you expect so much from a semi-auto blaster. So I give it 3 out of 5 stars. Reason I don't speak of target practice is because that's not the only thing you do with guns, right?
Off topic: If you do plan on using this for stealth, keep the blaster off until you get a good distance from your opponent while being unnoticed, then turn on the blaster and attack! Although this may give away your position to everyone.

All the specs for a brilliant gun:Apr 17, 2011
Name: Nerf Barricade RV-10 Ammunition Capacity: 10 darts Ammunition type: Nerf black-tipped whistler darts Action type: revolving, engine powered semi-automatic (no need for cocking) Size (length): 13.25 inches Weight: Approx. 1 pound Other specs: This gun has a tactical rail for Nerf accessories, and has a part where any Nerf gun stock can be attached.
Accuracy: above average Range: excellent Power: excellent Speed (firing): above average Speed (reloading): average Reliability: above average
Notes: This gun is just great. It's fast, reliable, lightweight, small, and certainly gets the job done. Not to mention that its range is unbelievably good. The only downside is that the accuracy is not great when you use the sights, but is very precise when you get used to firing from the hip. All in all, I would recommend not using this weapon as a sidearm, but as your main gun. That's how good it is.
