Great Entertainment...Poor EducationDec 23, 2007
By J. Hill
"Mom of preschoolers with food intolerances"
First off...my 3yo absolutely *loves* the clickstart computer and games. She is self taught and is a whiz at it.
We have all the games and purchased this one last. Out of all of them...this one is the most entertaining and the least educational.
When you open the game you have the choice to play 3 games and one option to listen to music you have "earned" in a game. One of the games has the player collecting fruit in a basket to make a pie. The player has to use the right and left arrow keys to move the character back and forth to catch falling fruit. Another game has a character flying through the air and the player has to use the mouse to run into flying pies. The final game has the player using the mouse to play a matching game. An instrument is shown on the screen and the player has to click on its match at the top of the screen. The instruments names are never mentioned. At the end of this game the characters dance to a tune. When you go back to the main menu, you can go into a pagoda house and play the tune you "earned" over again.
As you can see...based on the other ClickStart games that use numbers and letters...this doesn't use any (at least in level 1). And it is supposed to teach music but it does not. But it has the most entertaining games of all the cartridges.
Do I like it...yes. But it is a huge disappointment when it comes to education.

The favorite gameJan 10, 2008
By Rachel This is my daughter's favorite game. It has 3 games, but they are games that evolve and advance to harder levels.
For example, the cathing items in the basket game -- whatever it is called, starts with item recognition and uses the arrow keys to get say 'apples' instead of butter or cherries. Eventually it goes to can you get the apples with the '6' so you need to recognize your numbers.
There is a lot of recognizing numbers going on in this game. The same applies for the pie kicking game. This game actually is very matched to skills that are age appropriate for a 3 or 4 year old. For example, in my daughter's preschool, they are working on number recognition of 1-5. This is doing 1-9.
I highly recomend the clickstart to anyone, and while a 5 or 6 year old would master this game instantly, it is VERY good for the preschool age child of 3 & 4. It is fun too, my daughter would rather play this than watch TV.

Backyardigans is a fun cartridgeJan 24, 2009
By Blaine DeLancey Although I'm not sure how much educational content is present in this cartridge, my daughter has enjoyed playing it. I'd give it a slightly above-average level of replayability, i.e. she didn't lose interest in it immediately, but it didn't last as long as some of the other cartridges she has, like the Dora one. She did become a ninja for a few weeks, saying, "Hai-ya!" and karate-kicking her way around the house...
Love the BackyardigansMay 05, 2010

We all love the Backyardigans in my house, but I have to say, my 4 year old isn't all that thrilled about playing this game. We bought it for his birthday and he was really excited when he saw it. Played it a couple of times but I think it wasn't challenging enough for him. Loves the music though and that is probably one of the best things about the Backyardigans!
Doesn't really suit my daughterFeb 03, 2010

I should have known better; I bought her a Vsmile video game thing on her (4th) birthday and she didn't like it either. She would rather play with her dress up clothes, barbies, and baby dolls. She doesn't really play with the clickstart system at all. Her friends like it and her baby brother play with it and they seem to enjoy it. It didn't really fit my daughter's playing style but her baby brother and friends like to play with it so I would recommend this game and the click start system to other parents. I also bought a dora game for the clickstart; the other children seem to prefer the backyardigans over the dora game.
