Truly Great GameJan 10, 2012
By Bill Gallagher I love both games of strategy and word games. They are a great way to relax and socialize, allowing the competitive juices to flow a bit without really taking them seriously. Over the years our family has cycled through lots of games, each having their day in the sun. After all these years, however, the one that remains most frequently played is Boggle.
There are several reasons for this:
- Boggle can be played for a few quick rounds or for longer sessions [rarely more than 45 minutes at a time].
- Players with different skill levels can thoroughly enjoy the same board/game. Naturally, a strong Boggler will like competing against another good player as it will help them both try harder and find more words and learn from each other, but you can play against a beginner and still enjoy finding lots of words yourself. Ultimately, the satisfaction is in the words you find, not beating your opponent. In fact, you can have fun playing solo. How many games have the flexibility that they can be enjoyed by 1 or 10 or more?
- Boggle skill requires quick thinking with a knowledge of words. It involves seat-of-the-pants strategy and a good sense of what letter combinations are most fruitful. What's nice about the strategy it requires is that it doesn't require the deep thinking of say chess. So it's absorbing, but relaxing at the same time.
So this game is definitely highly recommended, but note stick with Big Boggle, which is much more fun that the smaller version.

Sometimes bigger IS betterMar 01, 2012
By Sheila Maybe it was nostalgia, but when Big Boggle showed up as a lightning deal this past Christmas, I just had to order it. I have to say that this newer version is better than the old one from my youth.
The 5 by 5 grid enables you to make longer words than ever before. One of the letter cubes now has commonly used two letter combinations such as, Th, Qu, Er, and In. The blocks themselves are a good size and the font is crisp, large, and easy to read.
Since you start with a larger board, you are supposed to find words that are at least 4 letters long. Since I play this with my children, I let the 8 year old find 3 letter words too, while the 11 year old has to find at least 4 letter words and I have to find at least 5 letter words. The 5 year old even gets in on the fun; he likes to spell out words on the grid when we aren't using the game.
When I played as a child, I noticed that after a few rounds we kept using the same words over and over again. Now, with the additional 9 cubes, I notice the variety of words has increased dramatically. When playing with a skilled group you can really get some highfalutin words on the lists, which makes the game a lot more fun.
I know that spell check has destroyed my ability to spell, Boggle is just the thing to force me to brush up on my skills. If you like word games, or want to help your kids improve their spelling in a fun way, then Big Boggle is a must buy.

Great, educational, fun game, but poor cover designDec 01, 2011
By Mama Bear This is a great game, and I think it's a fun way to engage the kids in spelling and learning new words. Love the extra large letter grid to allow for more combinations and vocabulary possibilities. My only gripe is that I wish they made some way for the dome to latch to the bottom. It fits very loosely, and has accidentally fallen open several times during play. Chasing down 25 little cubes that have scattered all over the floor is an annoying and time-consuming task.

Five Is Better!Sep 28, 2011
By Ohioan For years I played regular Boggle with friends and family, and we all enjoyed it. But for some reason, the game got boring after years of play. The letter combinations just didn't seem to allow for "interesting" words, and after a while, it seemed things were repeating themselves. Then a friend introduced me to the five-grid Boggle, and I became a Boggle player once again. The larger version adds not only an extra letter in each direction (5 x 5 instead of 4 x 4), but it also adds a whole new dimension to the possibilities. I find myself creating qu- words, for example, which I don't recall doing in the 4-grid version.
Fun for adults, and even greater fun for kids, who are much more flexible in zigzagging through the letters!

Fun & EducationalApr 10, 2011
By Teri L. Aparicio I purchased this Big Boggle word game because I love Scrabble. I first played this Boggle game last November while visiting my sister and her family. We had so much fun that I just had to get the game for myself. My husband is from Spain and didn't learn English until he came to the USA, therefore he is not the best at spelling the English language. This game has helped him to learn correct spelling and I find the game very stimulating for my brain! I bought two games, one to give away as a gift.
